Filmed on location around Capetown, South Africa by Kirkwall director Richard Mitchell, this is one of three 45mins films demonstrating the capabilities of the Canon 7D, 5OD and 500D DSLR cameras.
DSLR cameras are making waves in the film and television industry as they can record full High Definition video images. This means extremely high quality picture quality, using smaller less cumbersome cameras with the option of film stills lenses. High production value and maximum creativity without blowing the budget.
Kirkwall filmed a viral video for learning disability charity Mencap using the Canon 5D II last year.
Two competition winners join Lisa Snowdon at the London film premiere of James Cameron’s epic new film Avatar, sponsored by Coke Zero. Kirkwall caught up with them all before they walked the ‘blue’ carpet as the winners saw their names in lights on the Piccadilly Circus Coca-Cola sign.
Filmed as part of the Boots Christmas campaign promoting Gok Wan’s new beauty range, this video was produced and directed by Ross Williams, Kirkwall’s newest recruit.
Kirkwall director Adam Ryzman has just completed a new music promo for King Charles. It’s a beautifully shot video for the forthcoming single “Love Lust”. Filmed on location in London, Adam and director of photography Ben Fordesman used the RED camera to achieve a striking filmic look. Adam was already an admirer of the music.
‘I loved the song and wanted to make a video that was as rich visually as the music itself. Hopefully I’ve achieved this, without detracting from the song but instead complimenting it… Its all about innocence, loss and letting go.’
The video was produced by Kirkwall’s newest recruit Ross Williams who found his first project with Kirkwall ‘challenging but an adventurous learning curve. Working that closely with the director was an amazing insight into the creativity that drives a music promo.’
Kirkwall have completed a series of four webisodes for Kenco as part of their Eco Refill campaign. The videos were produced by Edward Tull and written and directed by Fraser Keddie.
The four videos follow celebrity Amanda Holden and eco-expert Oliver Heath as they launch the Waste Less challenge across the UK at different ‘Waste Lane’ locations.
The campaign highlight the amount of household waste we produce and combats the issue by reducing packaging. Oliver Heath was on hand to offer help to families on how to upcycle their household waste creatively into new products.
Kirkwall produced the videos over a four week period on location in Coventry, Yorkshire and Cheshire, following families as they learned new skills and changed old habits. The webisodes include video diary and ive action footage.
As part of a green packaging campaign, Kenco are launching new Eco Refill coffee packs.
Kirkwall was commissioned to provide video production services and help create ‘eco masterlcass’ films fronted by Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and eco-expert Oliver Heath, previously a designer on BBC1 series Changing Rooms.
Kirkwall director Fraser Keddie helped develop the video content and write the scripts, before going on to direct three masterclass films. Shot on location in South London, the films demonstrate ‘make do and mend’ projects utilising everyday household items, whilst informing viewers about ways to reduce and re-use their household waste.
The whole project was produced by Edward Tull, currently head of production at Kirkwall. Edward was able to turn around all three films in just one studio shoot day.
Established VJ, motion graphics artist and director Bopa has finished work on Rotating Leslie’s new music video entitled ‘Send in the Lions’.
After a summer of festivals, the band were recently interviewed on the BBC radio Introducing show and have had airplay on BBC Radio 1.
The video demonstrates effectively how Bopa fuses her assorted disciplines – animation, video and VJing.
Commissioned to demonstrate a new range of programmable T-shirts, this promo was directed by Paul Mumford with the help of Kirkwall as the production team.
The video shows Paul’s collaborations with Lumalive textile lighting and shows off the skills of bike polo players in the impending build up to the London 2009 European Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships.
Music venue, The Village Underground was transformed into a make-shift art studio with a number of up-and-coming London based artists creating their artwork on huge Becks bottle labels. Giant versions of the music inspired artwork from Hard-Fi, Ladyhawke and her artist Sarah Larnach hung on the wall. Kirkwall was invited to film and document the event which included a performance by Ladyhawke.
Diet Coke has launched a limited edition, customisable bottle based on Channel 4’s Ugly Betty, to be sold exclusively in Selfridges’ stores. The bottle has been designed by Ugly Betty stylist, Patricia Field.
To launch the exclusive bottles, Kirkwall was asked to film behind the scenes footage of the launch at Selfridges, which involved 5 Ugly Betty look-a-likes.
The footage was filmed, edited and delivered same day using a digital work flow to ensure a speedier sign off and maintain the ‘newsworthiness’ of the story.
Third Sector magazine, the UK’s leading publication for everyone who needs to know what’s going on in the voluntary and not-for-profit sector, has named Mencap’s Changing Places campaign ‘Digital Campaign of the Week’.
The two films which help promote the campaign, were produced by Kirkwall for Mencap and include a viral video and solutions video.
The viral video was filmed on High Definition using the Canon 5D MkII digital stills camera, which opened up the possibilities for using a wide selection of film lenses.

Kirkwall has been nominated for a GLE ‘Rising Star’ Award. The awards ceremony will be held at GLE on 4th March 2009.
Asked to write a piece describing how we might invest the money, we explained that media training was high on our list of priorities in order to expand as a company.
A panel of experienced businesspeople and advisers will pick the winner, which will be announced during the awards evening.
Kirkwall have been commissioned to produce a viral video for UK charity Help the Aged, who are encouraging people to purchase gifts for overseas aid on their ‘Cows n’Things’ website.
The viral will be seeded online and is aimed at guiding shoppers to the website which uses a Cow pilot character to promote the service.
Help the Aged is an international charity fighting to free older people from poverty, isolation and neglect.
The video recieved over 230,000 hits on YouTube in the first two weeks online and won the Third Sector Big Impact Award.
Kirkwall were asked to film an interview with the Sugababes as part of Boots Christmas campaign.
The interview revolved around the theme of Christmas and was partly filmed behind the scenes of the Sugababes music video for forthcoming single ‘Girls’.
